Birthday BOY

Dad always knows how to have a good time! I love when his birthdays come around because they are always entertaining. This year, both Paige and April were able to be here for his birthday—so, it was extra special. Mom took us out to eat at the local Mexican place and the employees gave him a time when they sang Happy Birthday to him—or I should say Dad did!

Picture this, the waiters are bringing in the dessert with the glowing candle singing Happy Birthday in Spanish, then slap Dad with the whip cream at the end. Well, the funny thing is Dad slapped it right back on them! …too funny! I am going to post some pictures Paige just sent me. I’m glad she was able to capture it all. I just wish we had the picture of Dad putting the whip cream on them!

Nola!

Ben & I made a quick trip during my birthday weekend to New Orleans and boy did we have a blast! There were many “firsts” for me! Ben wanted to take me to Bourbon as soon as we got there because I had never experienced it. That sure was an eye opener! As soon as we stepped foot on Bourbon, I saw a Tranny! I also saw the infamous Tin Man. (All-in-all it was a great experience.)

We had so much fun walking around the French Quarter and experiencing the Cajun cuisine. Ben had never experienced Café Du Monde, so we had to do that first thing Sunday morning. By the way, he is now addicted to beignets! Before leaving, we promised we would come back soon. Heck! We are only 1.5 hours away.

As soon as we walked into our home, we were greeted with a “Happy Birthday” from Mom and Dad. They also had a short vacation with some friends during the weekend and stopped in on their way home.

The Best Day of My Life!

One of the biggest moments in my life has now come and gone. Step one was college and now step two--marriage. It all flew by. As my wedding day approached, that famous saying “life is short” now sobered me.

On my wedding day, I was not nervous—at first. :) Everyone was amazed how relaxed I was; even me! I would say the nerves finally hit when I heard the organ chime the second hour. I knew this was it. As Julia Roberts tells her on-screen father Tom Skerritt in Steel Magnolias “It’s time!”

As the middle aisle doors flew open, I was able to have my own perfect view of my favorite part of weddings—the groom’s face. Emotions swarmed me. I looked to my left and saw friends and family I had not seen in years. Then I saw my Mama. She was stunning. I will never forget that moment.

Two months prior to the wedding I called my Uncle Bobby and asked if he would officiate the wedding. I had to beg a little because he thought he was too old and would mess it up. I assured him he was not old and that he had to do it for me. I tell you this because I am leading up to the part of the wedding that choked up Ben and many others.

Before Dad gave me away, Uncle Bobby announced to the congregation that on this special day twenty-eight years ago, he married my parents. ..sniff sniff. :) How many other couples out there can share that with people?

The rest of the wedding was a blur. I do remember being rushed to the back of the church to make a grand entrance to the reception. I remember trying to taste some of the food we picked out, but by the time I was making my way over to it I was whisked off to take a picture with all the Perry’s for our family reunion picture—oh, did I not mention we had our family reunion the same weekend? My parents HOSTED it, too! I guess you can refer to them as Superman and Superwoman! HA!

Finally, it was time to leave. The wedding took a year to plan and only lasted three hours. But, those three hours were the best of my life. I had everyone I cared about with me and they were all there to witness my second big step in life!
